To celebrate black history month, we decided to choose Michael Jordan to focus a significant amount of learning on. We chose him because he is from North Carolina, and it interested the class so much to learn about someone local who turned so famous. We read different books about Michael Jordan such as “Salt in His Shoes”, and “Dream Big” to help the students gain background information about him. We discussed his contributions, such as making Nike Air Jordans, and playing in the Olympics. We even got to watch some of his main highlights, which my Kindergarten friends loved! I prepared crafts where students made basketballs using tissue paper, jerseys where my students got to decorate Chicago Bulls jerseys however they wanted, and a lot of different coloring sheets with various important symbols to Michael Jordan’s career. They were so engaged and loved this project!
